One-Punch Man Synopsis

One-Punch Man follows the life of Saitama, a 25-year-old man who experiences ennui after becoming so strong he can destroy any foe with just one punch. In a world full of superheroes and supervillains, he joins the Hero Association and embarks on a quest to find an opponent worth fighting.

The series began as a webcomic created by manga author and artist One in early 2009. After achieving international success, it was re-created with illustrations by Yusuke Murata in June 2012 and published on the Weekly Young Jump website in Japan.

One-Punch Man has received universal acclaim – the series has over 30 million sales worldwide and is listed as one of the best-selling manga series of all time.

The first anime season was produced by the anime production studio MADHOUSE, while studio J.C. Staff took production for the second season.

The production studio for season 3 is MAPPA. The first season was animated by Madhouse and the second season was animated by J.C. Staff.

Many view MAPPA as superior to Madhouse, so this is extremely good news for fans.

Viz Media licensed both manga and anime for North American audiences; the animated series can be watched on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll as of 2022. Crunchyroll retains the rights for European viewers.

In December 2022, the One-Punch Man Twitter account warned against unofficial information from other Twitter accounts. It goes without saying that you should only trust the official account.

More One-Punch Man Announcements

Despite the lack of information regarding the third season, there are many new developments regarding the One-Punch Man franchise.

One-Punch Man Manga

While the One-Punch Man manga is currently ongoing (with over 179 chapters and counting), the illustrator Yusuke Murata announced on Twitter that he is taking a hiatus from his work on the manga for at least a month, stating he is “preparing for the future” of One-Punch Man.

Murata also confirmed when the manga returns, a new arc will be starting. Fans replied with overwhelming support and excitement for the new story to come.

Live-Action Film

It was revealed in June 2022 that the rights to One-Punch Man were bought by Sony Pictures and a One-Punch Man live-action film was in production. Justin Lin, director of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, was attached to the project as the film’s director. Lin will also produce and have a hand in the screenplay rewrite.

Who could helm a script for such a beloved story? Screenwriters Jeff Plinker and Scott Rosenberg have claimed the role. Plinker and Rosenberg collaborated on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its’ sequel Jumanji: The Next Level.

Plinker also has TV screenwriting credits for Lost, while Rosenberg has written for various films, including High Fidelity. The two served as executive producers for the Netflix adaptation of Cowboy Bebop.

Arad Productions has been confirmed to produce the film. The production company has produced a variety of comic and video game film adaptations, including Uncharted, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Ghost in the Shell, and the Borderlands film set to release in 2022.

Look forward to our future updates regarding Saitama and the future of One-Punch Man!
