Blue Lock Season 2 Story

Blue Lock follows the story of a high schooler, Yoichi Isagi, who aims to be part of the Japanese football national team and be the best striker in the world.

After Japan was eliminated in the FIFA 2018 World Cup, the Japanese Football Union started a scouting and training program for high school players in preparation for the 2022 Cup.

There they meet Coach Ego Jinpachi who introduced them to a radical and harsh training regimen.

The scheme isolates 300 young strikers in an institution called “Blue Lock” and puts them in rigorous training to create “the world’s greatest egotist striker”. Those who fail will never be permitted to represent any Japanese team.

With this, Isagi fights for his place and learns to find his own playing style to become the best egotistical player in Japan.

The animated series has already covered 89 chapters of the manga with three arcs: introduction, first selection, and second selection arcs.

Even with the ongoing series, fans are already excited to know which characters will return for its second season.

Although the cast has not yet been confirmed, some beloved characters are expected to make a comeback like Bachira, Kunigami, and Chigiri aside from the main protagonist, Isagi.

While it may not be as popular as other sports anime like Haikyuu!, the series has received recognition from Attack on Titan manga author Hajime Isayama.

He said that the story is “absolutely interesting” and hopes that “everyone in Japan will read it, regardless of whether they like football”.

Aside from this positive feedback, the manga has already sold over 18 million copies as of January 2023 and has won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in shonen category in 2021.
