Vinland Saga Season 2 Release Date

Vinland Saga releases on January 9, 2023, during the Winter Anime season.

For viewers outside of Asia, you will be able to watch Vinland Saga season 2 on both Netflix and Crunchyroll.

Vinland Saga Story

Created by Makoto Yukimura, Vinland Saga is a historical Viking epic following the life of Thorfinn, a young but expert fighter in a group of mercenaries led by the Viking Askeladd during the year 1013 AD.

Thorfinn joins the mercenaries, not for the looting and plundering but because he swears revenge on Askeladd for the murder of his father years prior.

The young Thorfinn waits years to enact his revenge – but after the prince of Denmark is taken hostage and Askeladd acts on it, Thorfinn’s life changes forever as he gets involved in a tale of revenge much bigger than himself.

Vinland Saga is critically acclaimed for the depth of the story, characters, and historical accuracy of 11th-century England.

The original manga is published in Monthly Afternoon in Japan and has 26 volumes.

The series creator Yukimura is dedicated to making the story as historically accurate as possible; much of the plot draws plot points from the folklore of the period.

The animated adaptation was announced in March 2018 and aired in 2019.

The first season of the series is animated by Wit Studio, currently known for their work on Spy x Family and Attack on Titan.

Details about the staff and the length of the next season have been revealed!

Previously animated by Wit Studio, Vinland Saga’s second season will be animated by studio MAPPA. MAPPA was co-founded in 2011 by ex-Madhouse employee Masao Maruyama.

MAPPA is known for its beautiful and intricate animation; they are currently working on giant series including Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and the finale of Attack on Titan.

The director of the first season, Shuhei Yabuta, will be returning for Season 2. The returning character designer is Takahiko Abiru.

Yabuta has worked on Attack on Titan, while Abiru has animated on various series, including The Ancient Magus’ Bride.

The series is also confirmed to be 24 episodes like the first season.
