The Rising Of The Shield Hero Story

The Rising of the Shield Hero is an isekai light novel series created by Aneko Yusagi, originally published as a web novel in Japan. The series has been republished in novel form with adjustments by Seira Minami.

The series follows Naofumi Iwatani, a typical Japanese university student, who is transported into another world after he finds a book about four heroes.

Naofumi, along with three others, discovers they have been summoned to become the “Cardinal Heroes” to find waves of monsters and protect the land.

Each hero receives legendary equipment, with Naofumi receiving the Legendary Shield.

Despite his initial optimism, Naofumi is betrayed by his partner and abandoned. With no prospects, Naofumi is alone in this new world with no allies to turn to and nowhere to go.

One day he runs into a trader and decides to buy a young half-raccoon/half-human girl. The girl, Raphtalia, begins to overcome her past trauma alongside Naofumi.

Together, Naofumi and Raphtalia begin their new journey in the new world!

The Rising of the Shield Hero garnered critical acclaim for its story and characters; Raphtalia won the “Best Girl” award at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2020.

As of 2022, over 20 novels have been published, and The Rising of the Shield Hero has expanded into manga and anime.

The anime was first announced in 2017 and premiered in 2019 on Crunchyroll. Season 1 of the series was produced by Kinema Citrus, known for Made in Abyss.

The second season was animated by DR Movie, who animated series from overseas, including High Guardian Spice and The Batman.
