Ranking Of Kings Season 2 Release Date, Trailer, Story, and News

Get ready for Ranking of Kings' return! Here's everything we know so far about Ranking of Kings season 2 release date, trailer, story, and news.

Fueled by the masterful fusion of enchanting animation and an empowering story of a ‘useless’ boy who became king, Ranking of Kings is coming back in 2023, but not with the season 2 fans are expecting.

Having not enough manga material from author Sousuke Tooka, the people behind the anime production of Ousama Ranking will try to whet the appetite of season 2-hungry fans by announcing a TV special called Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage.

Announced via the anime’s Twitter and official website for the special, The Treasure Chest of Courage will be airing in 2023. A key visual was also released.

Fans are still speculating about how the OVA will surprise awaiting fans since it’s an original and not based on the manga.

Even the number of episodes isn’t yet confirmed, but it will probably be more than one, as King Daida’s voice actor Yuki Kaji claimed via Twitter that there would be “lots of special episodes.”

Ranking Of Kings OVA and Season 2 Release Date

Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage is expected to air in 2023 on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block.

As for the official season 2, which fans refer to as part 2, there is no news yet about it as mangaka Sousuke Tooka hasn’t yet written enough source material to cover even a single cour of anime.

Fourteen manga volumes are currently out, with part 1 covering the initial 12. According to Sousuke Tooka’s pace and an optimistically quick green light for a part 2 production, expect to get a glimpse of the official season 2 sometime late in 2024.

Unless, of course, WIT Studios—the people behind the anime production—decides to create a single cour of 12 episodes.

We will update this article when we know more.

Eager fans are, of course, welcome to check this article from time to time, as we will update as soon as news about them comes out.

In the meantime, please enjoy season 1’s opening theme above—a song called BOY by King Gnu—all in its official video glory.

Ranking Of Kings Story

The manga and anime are both set in a world where a mysterious committee, acting behind the scenes for a race of powerful beings known as ‘Gods,’ ranks the power and prosperity of kings, hence the title. This is the driving force of the narrative, as number one on the Ranking of Kings is entitled to treasures from the ‘Divine Treasure Vault.’

The story revolves around the adventures of a little prince named Bojji, who was born deaf and tiny in size, and his friend Kage, a survivor of a wiped-out assassin clan, who understands Bojji’s words despite him being unable to speak due to his disability.

Bojji’s father is King Bosse, a legendary giant warrior who was once renowned as the strongest man in the world. King Bosse affirmed Bojji’s right to succession right before he died. This leads to the resentment of most, if not all, people of the kingdom who sees Bojji as unfit to rule the kingdom due to his physical shortcomings.

Those at the royal court believe Prince Daida, Bojji’s arrogant but healthier younger half-brother, is more suited to the throne.

Despite being ridiculed and scorned by the people around him, Bojji is endowed with a big heart, as he dreams of becoming a strong and respected king like his father.

With the help of some schemes perpetrated by Bosse’s widow and Daida’s mother, Queen Hilling, Bojji’s dissenters successfully replaced Bojji as heir to the throne. The tiny prince shrugs it off, only requesting to be allowed to go on a journey to strengthen himself.

Unknown to them, Prince Daida is being controlled by a mysterious figure who plans to make him attain the top spot in the Ranking of Kings and gain the treasures afforded by the Divine Treasure Vault.

Ranking Of Kings OVA and Season 2 Expectations

The upcoming special will feature a story not shown in the first season or not reflected in the manga (yet). This premise makes it exciting, as fans are eager for more Bojji and Kage and their discoveries.

The key visual features the duo opening a gold-lit treasure, which is probably the Treasure Chest of Courage. Bojji and Kage will surely endure challenges and trials to get the titular chest.

As for what’s in store for the official part 2 of the anime, fans may have to wait a little longer as author Sousuke Tooka continues to write the manga.

Seeing that part 1 pretty much concluded a lot of the loose ends in the first arc, part 2 will probably build much more on the greater world, including the mysterious organization ranking the kings. This means that Bojji and Kage will have a bigger stage to prove themselves and a grander story with greater stakes for fans to enjoy.
