Demon Slayer Story
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a manga series (turned franchise) created by Koyoharu Gotouge.
The story follows a young, kind-hearted village boy named Tanjiro Kamado. One day, he returns home to discover a demon has slaughtered his family.
Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the only ones to survive the attack – but Nezuko transforms into a demon. After running into a demon slayer and adamantly defending his sister, Tanjiro vows to become a demon slayer himself and begins his quest to turn Nezuko back into a human and avenge his family.
The manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020 and is one of the best-selling manga series of all time. With over 150 million copies sold, it’s no surprise the anime adaptation is just as successful.
The anime series, produced by Ufotable, is one of the most popular worldwide and has positively affected tourism in Japan.
The animated film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train broke box office records – netting $505 million at the box office. The movie became the highest-grossing film in 2020 and the highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time.
The Demon Slayer franchise expanded with various light novel adaptations and video games. The first game, Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, is available on Steam for purchase.
The series is available to watch on Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix, and Funimation. The manga is licensed by Viz Media and is available to read on the Shonen Jump website and app.

Demon Slayer at Anime Expo 2022
Demon Slayer had a giant third-anniversary celebration at Anime Expo 2022!
The celebration included a panel featuring Demon Slayer producer Yuma Takahashi and Natsuki Hanae, the voice actor for Tanjiro in the series.
The panel consisted of commentary from various scenes in the series and insight into their performances. Takahashi stated he was “so impressed” with Ufotable’s production level for the series.
Hanae revealed after recording an emotional scene that he “didn’t… prepare [himself] for [the] scene…” and that he cried after a recording session where a key character passes away.
The voice actor stated that he doesn’t usually prepare in any certain way for emotional recording sessions, as he wants the acting to be as raw as possible.
Takahashi then showed a making-of video that displayed the animation process of a scene from the Mugen Train film. The teaser trailer for the “Swordsmith Village Arc” was revealed after.
The panel was one of the largest at Anime Expo 2022; Hanae and Takahashi thanked all the fans for their support at the end of the event.
