Imagine McDonald’s and Burger King have a disagreement. What should they do? Just let their fighters fight in a death match. The last standing will have the right to steal the recipe.
Kengan match is considered to be the best way to solve a business problem. The practice can be tracked down to the Edo period.
But the Kengan match is not about lawless brutality. Kengan Association is the one responsible for holding a Kengan match.
Instead of making several small fights of Kengan, the whole series tells about the Kengan Tournament, which decides the new chairman of the Kengan Association.
The story of Kengan Ashura revolves around Ohma Tokita and his manager Kazuo Yamashita. The first time they meet in a side alley as Kazuo watches Ohma fight someone much bigger than him.
As if fate is at work, it turns out Kazuo’s company is recruiting new Kengan fighters. Ohma is nominated as a Kengan fighter for Hideki Nogi, Kazuo’s boss. Kazuo is also appointed to be the manager of Ohma.
Through several trials and tribulations, Ohma fails to be Hideki’s Kengan fighter. Through boiling rage, he chokes Hideki and demands the reason. It turns out the next tournament to decide the new chairman of the Kengan Association will be held soon, and he already has a substitute for Ohma.
Ohma doesn’t accept the decision and decides to enter Kengan Tournament as the representative of Kazuo’s company.
Can Ohma win the Kengan Tournament? Let’s wait for Kengan Ashura’s third season to find out!

Ura Sunday held a vote in January 2015. The content is about the next manga to be animated.
Kengan Ashura won the vote with flying colors. It got 2.3 million votes out of 9 million in May 2015. It was decided that Kengan Ashura would get an anime adaptation.
But the news of adaptation turned into dust. No new information was released after that. Two years later, there was news that the anime was still being planned. In 2018, the staff and cast were announced.
Finally, the anime was aired on Netflix on June 31, 2019. The second part of the anime was released three months later, in October 2019.
There is a misconception among fans about the order of Kengan Ashura. The 2019’s Kengan Ashura is considered the first season by Netflix. The fact that they divide into two parts is confusing.
Unlike the Japanese TV schedule, Netflix released the first and second parts simultaneously. Because the gap between them is three months, most fans think they are different seasons.
It is also supported by My Anime List, which divides Kengan Ashura into three different series; Kengan Ashura Part 1, Kengan Ashura Part 2, and the upcoming Kengan Ashura Season 2.
To avoid any unnecessary confusion, we will refer to it as season 3.
